Economics of change

Just switched from Surf Excel to Ariel for my washing machine detergent and I dont like the smell. Have grown up on Surf ads and that being the only detergent brand we knew of as children. I made this switch for a ten rupee price difference as the new budget has arrived. The Ariel smell lingers on clothes and I dont like it.
They say every house has a smell but we cannot smell our own house.
The other day I had been to Oberoi and I realised they had changed the cleaning agents they used. It all smelt so floral.Even Intercontinental smelt the same . After working at the Oberoi, I knew how the lobby smelt for four and half years. That time they did not serve food at the old Oberoi lobby. Now this strong artificial floral smell exists in the three hotels on Marine Drive and that's not so welcoming.

Bournvita has increased their sugar content. Earlier to drink Bournvita with milk, we had to add sugar to the milk as we were not accustomed to the taste of bitter chocolate. Now the chocolate bit is reducing so you can add two spoon fulls before the colour of the milk turns light beige. So the consumption of Bournvita has increased. It is the largest selling thing in India but they have surely changed the taste. Try asking them about it and they will give you consumer research and proof about how that's what the consumer wants and how they have to move with times.

Our Red Label tea tastes different with every pack. Some are stronger than others. May be the tea leaves are from different tea gardens I guess. All these smells, aromas and tastes matter so much. Some one in the elevator uses some sad Deo like Axe or whatever. Whenever we use the elevator in the mornings, it reeks of that perfume.
Perfumes and sweat mixed with alcohol and smoke at pubs is another turn off. Dunno how we liked it all as youngsters. Now when I visit a restaurant, I know it never ever gets sunlight or fresh air. Ac vents cannot be fully cleaned. And I think of Howard Roarke wanting to design buildings using all the natural elements of sunlight, fresh air. We need more architects and design houses loving and appreciating nature. If the demand increases, the cost of these eco friendly products has to go down. I don't know if I am correct in my principles of Economics. Thats why inspite of getting good marks in Economics and Statistics, I majored in Philosophy.
