Shopping n traveling

They say one fourths of the food which comes to any house is wasted. I am actually monitoring it closely. Now I try to give away fruits before they are spoilt and have to be binned. The cooked food goes to the maid who comes after every meal to clean up. I have different ones coming. So leftover breakfast idli is eaten by the dusting maid. The lunch extras goes to the vessel maid in the afternoon and the children s tiffin extras go to the evening maid and dinner leftovers go to the maid who comes to do night vessels. Sure sounds like a luxury having so many people walk in to the house. Its amazing how even little food is taken by them and eaten. I have told them that if one of you is not going to eat it. Leave it in the fridge so that the next one can take it. Since I cook the meals, the leftovers are not very high. Size of a small or a big bowl of dal, rice and veggie. Like one more person can eat a meal if sitting with us. I have this thing about cooking fresh food every meal. My friends have tried to convince me that I can make the meals together and serve at meal times but I have not yielded. It gives me a sense of being and purpose. My mind is thinking about food than shopping or sex.I don't have anything against any of the three. That's what the research says that women think about shopping 90% of the time. I think what we eat, wear, read, study, earn, clean etc all requires buying a thing or a service. Buying is shopping, so yes , home makers are always thinking of shopping. I am one of those calm content people when it comes to shopping. I don't have to buy everything beautiful I lay my eyes on.After reading about the Jaipur Lit Fest, even I want to go for it. I believe the shopping is very good with all NGOs and Ritu Kumar putting up their best wares. I was like that only at Odel in Srilanka. I really wanted to buy everything with an elephant motif. Even now if I know of family visiting Srilanka, I dont hesitate to ask for an Odel t shirt. When I was pregnant with my elder child, I used to almost everyday se an elephant on the Mumbai roads. I was also traveling a lot on work those days. Remember seeing an elephant in most cities. I somehow thought of it as a good omen. It kind of kept me healthy and happy during that time. I could work till the day before I went in labour. The elephant making me smile and Lord Ganesha, our elephant headed God may be removing the obstacles away. Like while going to Dighwadih where my school was, there were lot of temples en route the ten km stretch. I remember praying to each n every temple. Lot of bus stops were near these temples, under a Peepul tree.It started with Kali mandir at Hetlibandh and ended with a Shiva temple after the green mosque, opposite the cinema hall. We would touch our hand on our forehead and neck three times as a gesture of prayer. Before reaching the bus stop, all of us would go to the temple near our house. Actually a ten min walk, which we accomplished in seven as we were children. We d remove our shoes, go in pray, take prasasd and smile at Aunties too. I remember the Pandit ji would take very long to give the holy water. He'd just act busy and I had a bus to catch. Then it was a race to wear my shoes, take the bag from home and run to the bus stop. I also want to visit the Pushkar mela. I want to go for the next Kumbh mela. I want to do darshan at Amarnath, Badrinath, Kedarnath. I want to go to Jerusalem, Mecca, Medina. I want to visit all the holy places that I know of and all the fancy places I feel like.
