Prateik Babbar is hot. Check him out in the new GQ magazine. The shoot happenned in Phuket. Phuket is such a lovely place. I think whole of Thailand is beautiful.
Amazing people and really beautiful place. My experiences of Thailand are all due to a very close friend who lives there. I have been with her family and friends and all were so welcoming. So Bangkok,which the world knows for different reasons is one homely place in my mind.I have been really lucky to know such a wonderful friend from there. I met her in my first year of the college. We were hostelites and took time to know each other. Once the bond was formed, there was no looking back. With her I got a whole fresh perspective in life. How they were Indians who had moved from Pakistan to Bangkok during partition.When all girls were thinking about marriage, she was talking about going to a Thai university and starting her own business.So much clarity and what a vision in such a young person.
They all almost talk Thai at home and love Thai food.We had attended a wedding there. Watching Thais of Indian origin and the Indian Thai mixed children dancing to the beats of the dhol in the temple compound with the Baraat arrived was a sight firmly etched in my mind.
So the reason I went to this college was because of an my mother s friend s sister in law who had visited from Mumbai and told my Aunt and my Mom to send me to Mumbai for further studies and this college in particular. She had explained all the advantages of making me see the whole wide world.
Last night I met that Aunt at a wedding and I thanked her for recommending me the college twenty years back. She was shocked and said' Really????' When I thanked her again she said 'I must have suggested so many things to so many people and no one has ever thanked me for anything till date.' I felt so complete acknowledging her for the contribution to my life.
Someone wrote That recession is a chance to reconnect with what we need rather than what we have been conditioned to want.

    Believe it or not, there's been series of event (which we'll talk and laugh at later when we meet). I questioned myself many times. I read your email, found answers to my needs and am back at peace with myself.

When I was working and staying in the hostel, I kind of stopped believing in most festivals and rituals. I thought all this was some weird things which people did, it had no scientific base and why should I follow anyone. In the college hostel, vacations were time to go home and not connected with any festival except Diwali. Sophia College hostel was a cocoon in the heart of South Mumbai. Antakshari

Today we were playing antakshari at the Holi get together. We did not know any new songs so naturally only the golden melodies were being sung. The whole generation playing antakshari was singing the similar era songs on the alphabets they got. I realised a couple of things. In English language there is no game like Antakshari. How many sentences end with I or The? How can you sing when most songs start with I, The, Once, When and How?I cannot resist explaining the game, we all grow up with, in India. Antakshari means Ant : end , Akshar: alphabet ie last letter of the word. Akshar also means God. It also means God has the last word. Its a game with two teams and we call the teams as  'party'.  We say "Baithey baithey kya karein, karna hai kuchh kaam, shuru karo antakshari , le ka Hari ka naam." Shraddh period in Hinduism

According to the Hindu calendar, this is the shraddh period going on.  For fifteen days in a year, the ancestors are remembered and prayed to. No auspicious events / ceremonies take place in this time. People use the tithi/date of death to invite a Pandit and feed the departed soul. It means you remember the person passed away, give food to the Pandit and the crows. People keep a cooked meal on the terrace. They try to make the favourite food of the departed person. My memories are of my Grandma mixing and crushing all the savouries with her hands and when it was in form of  a paste, my Uncle would go to the terrace and throw the food for the crows. Crows in Hinduism are considered messengers of the departed souls. A lot of people feed Gathiyas to the crows for the full year. If your ancestors are happy, then your life goes well ,is the general belief amongst Hindus. The shraddh period falls exactly between Ganpati and Navratri. One does not buy a house or have a wedding in this time.
